Michael – is an eleven-year old adventurous boy, whose family decides to sail around the world. During the voyage, he becomes stranded on a tropical island meeting Kensuke, who claims the island as his kingdom. I like Michael because of his qualities like being brave, kind, taking care of Stella etc. He makes the story funny and hopeful at difficult situations.

Kensuke – Kensuke, despite not being able to speak much English, is a trustable friend who helps Michael in all possible conditions. Kensuke is like a father to Michael, chatting with him, taking care of him when he’s sick, teaching him art etc. Kensuke is a Japanese man who thinks that his family died in a bomb which almost destroyed the whole town Kensuke lived in. I like Kensuke because he’s a mysterious character who engages the reader and adds such interest to the story.

Father – The mastermind who calculated and started the idea of sailing around the world.

Mother – is the ‘skipper’ of the ship. She was going to take the family round the world and back again. They had absolute confidence in her and were proud of her for her brilliance.

Eddie - 11 year old boy who is Michael's best friend and gives Michael a soccer ball as a going away present which Michael keeps for luck.
Stella Artois – Michael’s one-ear up and one-ear-down black and white sheepdog, who always seemed to know what was about to happen before it did.

I like Michael because of his qualities like being brave, kind, taking care of Stella etc. He makes the story funny and hopeful at difficult situations.
