As it turned out, this idiom comes from Benjamin Franklin :) I think that if your guests stay longer than 3 days in your house, they become unwelcome and fish starts to rot and smell bad after 3 days. Don`t trespass on your friends` hospitality

The message is that guests who stay more than three days stink soul of man like a fish, but when your heart is big and open soul, then the doors of your house are always open.    Regardless of the circumstances. Hospitality is a virtue and a sign of a man with a great soul.
