I believe she was more static because she didn't rebel or try to resist and to think I know all that's happening but would she really follow orders to leave her mother in a town of sick and death and she left almost without a fight to escape the yellow fever.

I think she's a mixture of both because she has to learn how to take care of herself and her grandfather when Mattie's mother got sick with the fever. This means she'll have to grow up and be a woman to be honest. #NOMOREMOMMIEEE

From reading the actual novel, I think she's a mix. Her personality doesn't really change but her outlook and feelings for her friends and family definitely change.

I would say Mattie is an static character, but I don't know because it's an excerpt. Mattie is static because she remains negative to her parents orders, she seems slightly blithe throughout the excerpt.
