What characters should be playable in the next Mario Kart/MK8D DLC?

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is right around the corner, and in it, there are more characters playable than every before in Mario Kart! And yet, there are already people speculating on what kind of DLC we'll get, or even what the next Mario Kart will be like! To that end, I decided to set this up to encourage discussion and speculation on what kind of characters should MK8D get and what kind of characters should be playable in the next Mario Kart get as a whole! There are no real guidelines for this, just keep it to Mario and/or Nintendo characters. Third-party characters can be added, but be prepared to argue in their defense. Have fun!
